CLUB HISTORY
MONK SPORTS FC (29/09/08)

The Club was formed in 1953 as a works social club, by Arthur Monk Ltd.
In 1970 a new clubhouse was built and Monk Sport as it is today was born.
Since then the club has evolved into a thriving community club, accommodating not only football teams but snooker, indoor bowls, darts, crown green bowling, dominoes and very soon pool teams too.
Over the years the football teams have predominantly been made up of adults.
The teams have had a certain amount of success winning the premier league (Warrington & district league), first division (Warrington & district league), Guardian cup, Depot cup and Red lion Cup along the way.
In the late 1990’s the football club was having problems recruiting the necessary players to continue the success already built on, and it was decided that the way forward was to try and attract youth teams to act as feeder teams to the adult teams, thereby building a sound basis for the future.

Plans were made and in 1999 our first under 11’s team came to the club. Since then progress has been made and we now boast ten junior teams.
Our aim now is to continue to progress with the mini football section and to feed these players through to the 11 a-side junior teams.
The junior section is already proving a success, after initial honours in 1999 (U11 Div 3 Winners), further success has been gained with a number of teams gaining promotions, winning 2006/7 U14 Auxiliary Cup, 2007 U15 Woolston Rovers tournament and 2007/8 U15 Division 3.
Next season will see the formation of the new 'Monk Academy' for U17 players, bringing to fruition the work since 1999 and strengthening the open age teams from within the club itself.
