| Monk Raiders | 1 |
A massive game for both teams today, with the pressure definitely being on ourselves. Playing away at the league leaders Earlestown A, with them playing league games the last 2 weeks, and our last league game was in November. Despite their match fitness being far superior to ours, it took only 2 minutes before we scored!. Lucas had the ball out on the wing and passed it forward to Bob, after leaving defenders in their wake Bob calmly drew the keeper, which left Jamie all alone in front of goal. Bob slipped the ball to Jamie, and Jamie made no mistake, 1-0. The game seemed to take a lull for the next 15 minutes with neither side seriously troubling the keepers. You could feel the tension in the air. On 20 minutes Bob found himself in the same situation he was in for the 1st goal. After drawing the keeper he had 3 players to choose from to pass to, but decided to go himself and the keeper saved. Defensively we were very poor today, most of our opponents attacking play or half chances were created by our mistakes. HT 1-0.
We started the 2nd half very strongly, and after 2 minutes substitute Reece burst down the wing and his great cross found Bob. To his credit he swung at it with his left foot but didn’t quite get the connection he desired. Within a minute Lucas found himself some space just inside the area but he also miss kicked his shot. The 2nd half was far better for us. Three players stood out in this game, Bob, Adam and Mason. Bob’s contribution was amazing his tackles, his ability and overall work rate was awesome. Adam’s kicking really made a huge difference to the game today, out of his hands he was hitting the half way line, and off the floor his kicks were excellent. Mason never stopped from 1st minute to last, he constantly annoyed the Earlestown players with his beaverish attitude and his hard work. With 8 minutes to go Reece picked the ball up and went on a run beating 2 players, but after entering the box he found his equal, the goalie!. A minute later Jamie’s neat pass in the box to Reece, presented him with a good chance, he hit the net but sadly it was the side netting. Time seemed to last forever after this, with Earlestown desperate to score and us just wanting the final whistle. It finally came. FT 1-0.
Well done to all the lads for a fantastic effort especially to keep a clean sheet against one of our major opponents.
Man of the Match – Adam
Most Improved – Jamie
